SIEMENS Digital Industries Software (DI SW) supports organizations of all sizes in the field of digital transformation using software, hardware and services from the Siemens “Xcelerator” business platform. Siemens‘ software enables companies to optimize their design, engineering and manufacturing processes to turn today’s ideas into the sustainable products of the future. From chips to entire systems, from product to process, across all industries.

Shaping the “New Normal”

Flexible working locations as well as increased hybrid collaboration are becoming the „New Normal“. The Covid-19 pandemic is one of the major drivers of this fundamental change. Against this background, Siemens DI SW launched the global „Future of Work“ (FoW) Initiative. The program is currently rolled out at Siemens DI SW’s numerous sites around the world with the aim to create a future-oriented, human-centric working environment. With a “GLOCAL” approach – global guidelines and a global vision combined with a local strategy – Siemens DI SW wants to guarantee a corporate appearance and standards while considering the local culture and requirements.

Setting up a flexible and holistic site-strategy

In the alignment phase of each local workplace transformation a vison, goals and guiding principles workshop helps to understand the cultural aspects, working methods and specific needs. Findings from stakeholder interviews and building analyses provide insights on requirements in relation to spatial, cultural, technological and service-oriented aspects. On this basis, a contemporary shared office concept is developed that has the highest impact on employees and motivates them coming into the office. In the new office environment employees find designated spaces that support their various working needs: places for focused work, as well as spaces that encourage collaboration and quiet retreat areas to take a breather in between.

Communicating the change

The project on site is supported by change management measures and continuous communication. As part of the change management process, we accompany representatives of the employees throughout the whole project process. Designated impulse trainings offer leaders hands-on tools to effectively support their team members through the process of the “New Normal” and gives them the possibility to raise their questions and exchange on challenges. Townhall meetings at the local project sites also offer employees the opportunity to inform and exchange on current project developments

One key measure taken in the field of communication is the implementation of a program and project related intranet page.  The information platform gathers news and knowledge about the overall Future of Work program as well as the ongoing projects at the worldwide locations. In addition, the editorial preparation and regular distribution of project newsletters aim to increase overall acceptance for the change project. The workingwell team covers the global program communication and maintains the dedicated intranet platform.

Fostering a New Work mindset and experience

The conception and implementation of an e-learning platform completes our service for the holistic approach of the Future of Work program. Our Online Journey includes explanation videos, design and style guidelines, reference projects on the topic of New Work as well as location specific information. This ensures  that all employees get a general overview of various Future of Work topics and a fast onboarding into the entire implementation process. The Activity Based Hybrid Working (ABHW) Online Training – set up by our training experts of the workingwell academy and customized individually for DI SW – gives a common understanding of the concept of ABHW, as well as its impacts and benefits. In this way, employees are able to discover the possibilities of their new working environment, maneuver successfully through the new space and work productively from the very beginning.

As dedicated partner of Siemens DI SW and the Future of Work program, we’ll accompany the transformation of the worldwide locations on a long-term basis and implement projects in five countries. A major component will remain to adapt the global “Future of Work” vision to the local and cultural needs of each DI SW location. Through close cooperation with the local project teams and our expertise, the workingwell team is optimally positioned to achieve this.
